About root canal therapy in general ...... we dentists are presented with different clinical conditions that vary for each individual patient. As example, how "infected" or how far gone that tooth is at the beginning often influences the final outcome and prognosis. The most important part of the process is a "well-cleaned" or well-instrumented root canal chamber. The root canal chamber is then filled, most often with gutta percha. Gutta percha is a rubber-like substance that is also used as insulation in transatlantic cables, and was formerly used in golf balls. There are no scientific reports of adverse reaction to gutta percha. One can substantiate that by searching PubMed which is the National Library of Medicine repository. Biocalyx or calcium hydroxide is never contraindicated in root canal therapy. I completely understand the fistuation process, its etiology, and its resolution. Step one would be to get a second opinion ~ mine ~ concerning how the tooth stands today. It is necessary to obtain your film, either by U.S. mail, e-mail, or other means. Then we can offer an opinion, and offer some possible solutions! If you need advice about how to obtain the x-ray, please reply. Joel M. Eichen DDS Philadelphia PA
