I seem to have dropped in on the tail end of am exchange that
mentioned some problem with combining melatonin and the benadryl sleep
inducers.

Can someone fill me in on what is supposed to be the problem? the
combination works extremely well for me and has for some time.

Hi Frank, I see you're using Forte Agent, you can retrieve older posts with
your newsreader to see the whole thread (assuming your provider hasn't
purged them yet.)

Below is what I posted, in case your server's posts have already been
purged:

Thanks. that is just what I needed to see. I'll double check with my
MD though he already knows I'm using the combination.

Quite a few people are using this combination. I imagine how much risk that
is entailing depends on the individual, what might be fairly safe levels for
you might increase the risks too far for me, dunno. Speaking strictly for
myself I don't want to trade my insomnia and apnea for the risk of coma or
expiring in my sleep (not yet anyway). If I go long enough with this
insomnia (four years and counting now), then the risks may begin to look
more attractive to me. However, I *did* try for one week the standard dose
of diphenhydramine hcl (50mg) and 3mg melatonin with no effect. So for me
it's a bust.
