Hello, fine folks on the NGs!

I wanted to let y'all know I appreciate the well wishes, which I got
second hand from a couple of sources. I finally got sprung from
prison^H^H^H^H^H^Hthe hospital this afternoon, just in time to make it
home for Christmas eve and all.

After having increasing difficulty with breathing deeply and chest pain
last weekend, on Monday I went in to the doc, who ran an EKG that read
normal but thought it wise to send me to the ER to have further
evaluation. After many many hours, another EKG, an echocardiogram, a
chest CT scan, chest x-rays, and some bloodwork later, I was diagnosed
with blood clots in both my lungs, aka pulmonary embollism. So I was
admitted upstairs for what was supposed to be a couple of days, but what
turned out to be the rest of the week on a heparin drip to thin out my
naughty little platelets. I was uncomfortable the first couple of days,
but then my lungs started to clear a little and, as my little birds have
mentioned, I was mostly just bored and tethered to the wall socket via
an IV.

I am feeling mostly all better now and am cleared to resume normal
activities, but no strenuous exercise for a month, and I have to be
cautious with certain activities with a high risk of cuts or bruising,
since I will be on a blood thinner for a year as a preventive measure.

So now, the presents are almost all wrapped, my gem of a husband is
stuck with the midnight shift and will will keeping an eye out for
reindeer on the rooftop or the metro station at the MCI Center, and we
should have a very merry Christmas when he gets home from work. He
really was the greatest, stepping in and doing all the week before
Christmas stuff with two kids who were understandably weirded out by
everything going on!

Again, thanks everyone for your kind wishes, and I now return you to
your regularly scheduled nitpicking!

Welcome back, Dr Lith -- glad you enjoy time outside the hospital, it
can be worse than being in jail as I found out, as you are tied with
IV, oxygen mask and a bunch of other electronic devices. It is not that
hard to get to parking lot, but It is hard to escape hospital if you
have to carry CSF and urine bags on the shoulder and convince the taxi
cab driver to take you home.

Inject your wisdoms frequently - Merry Christmas!

Ditto, since I didn't get the original post. :)
