I'm sorry, I was looking for insight on prions themselves, and how they actually attack the tissue specifically, and whether that mechanism was allegorical to the same way 'hate' attacks a social group or a given population.

Prions are still Hypothetical. While the proteins that prions are made from are generally available in the body - the mechanism of prion infection and propagation are not yet known. All known prion diseases are untreatable and fatal. Prions attack CNS tissue by creating plaques(amyloids) that create holes in the tissue structure. I do not see a relationship between prions - and "hate" attacks.

Thank you, I very much appreciate your answer, it was very informative. Of course there is no relationship, only a potential allegory. So, the hypothetical prion is constructed of the very proteins which the body needs, but which have somehow become perverted to create deposits that build up on the tissues, which then destroy/consume them. Fascinating. 8-)

I thought at the time that Prusiner's Nobel was a bit hastily bestowed. One hopes things will not turn out the way they did for poor Doctor Fibiger. --cary All known prion diseases > are untreatable and fatal. > > Prions attack CNS tissue by creating plaques(amyloids) that create holes > in the tissue structure. > > I do not see a relationship between prions - and "hate" attacks. |
