From: Jessica Marie on 19 Aug 2006 17:11 Hello My Fellow Agora's!!! I feel so priviledged to be sitting here ALIVE after the ultimate HELL for agoraphobics finally ends today!! I have a hard time leaving my apt., going out to big, loud places, etc....but at the beginning of this summer, my computer totally crashed, died........then my stereo system shorted out & there were a few weeks that our cable TV also got pulled. I am an agoraphobic who is imprisoned in her apartment in the summer (sometimes for long streaks of high heat temps) b/c I have to stay inside d/t my COPD....can't breathe out there. Stuck inside w/ the A/C in a tiny 1 BR apt. w/o ANY support, groups, e-mails, NOTHING!!! I felt like I was emotionally suffocating, my heart was dying & I have SI (self-injury) issues that kicked back in d/t no computer. I am BACK!! And unfortunately, it looks like this group has been pretty damn quiet! Are we afraid of our online friends these days or what? All we've got is each other, folks!! All you need is Love (thank you John Lennon, my hero) Let's make this group move, groove & thump & jump again! I am sure that there are many of you who have summer stories to share...how about starting there?? Sound off, ppl!!! Make it sound like you count! Please.....selfishly asking of you all. Peace N Hugs, Jessica Marie et. al.
From: DBlondeCat on 26 Aug 2006 12:33 Hi Jessica Marie! I'm new, by the way. My name is Michelle Marie. I'm 30, and have been dealing with this ickness (agoraphobia) for about 3 years now. I love that you want to get this group pumped up...noticed it is a little quiet in here. Sorry about your COPD...the summers in some places are hard enough without that. And if you live in a place like Buffalo (like I do), then those A/C charges smacked onto your power bills must be a killer! Damn those heat waves! They hurt in so many ways for us, eh? My July bill was about $190! I've been in a similar boat where electronics are concerned, so I feel you there. My DVD player is down (barrowing one now tho), my laptop crashed, and my playstation2 won't turn on. This PC I am using sucks...about all I can do with it is create office docs, download/edit pics and get online...it won't play games, download anything off the web, and it's dial-up so SLOW is the name of the game for me. Well, at least it lets me access this group! That much is cool :) Anyway, I agree...let's get it started in here!! lol I'm no good at getting it started tho...maybe someone wants to create a fun topic??? Or tell some jokes??? Something!
From: Jessica Marie on 26 Aug 2006 16:47 DBlondeCat: I would settle for suggestions and/or tips that others use to deal w/ their agora! How goes everyone else get out the damn front door? How do others get to solid-planned appts w/o canceling at the last minute? Does anyone else have to survive public transportation? If so, what's your tricks when you feel that everyone on the bus is judging you? Am I the only neurotic person around here? Is anyone else afraid of the telephone, also? Or once again, am I the only neurtoic one around here? DBC, are WE the ONLY one's around here? RSVP, everyone? Jessica Marie et. al. DBlondeCat wrote: > Hi Jessica Marie! > > I'm new, by the way. My July bill was about $190! Three years of dealing with agoraphobia can take it out of you. If you don't mind me asking how far have you got with your dealings. I know the illness can be a gentle one of a screaming trip to hell and back depending on your point of view and the extent of the illness. This group has been quiet recently but for many years I posted here every second or third day about the walks I had managed on my way towards recovering a little of my life back. People pop in from time to time and tell us how they have been and what has been happening in their lives and that's always nice to read :). Ah the Air con troubles I've heard from a lot of people this year. So far mine is going strong and its only a little portable 8000 BUT system :). I'm planning on replacing it with a 12000 BTU with Turbo setting for up to 15000 BTU next year just to cope with the ever changing environment :). >I've been in a similar boat where electronics are concerned, so I feel >you there. Well, at >least it lets me access this group! That much is cool :) What has happened to your DVD player ?. Could you explain the problem to me ?. If you explain the laptop I might be able to help with that :). I'm sorry to say I know very little about play stations so I couldn't help with that at all..........my play station limited knowledge is they come in black or silver.....that's about it :-). What sort of games do you like to play ?. I'm enjoying Titan quest and Oblivion at the moment.....a little walk around a forest with dragons and orcs is always a nice giggle :-). >Anyway, I agree...let's get it started in here!! lol I'm no good at >getting it started tho...maybe someone wants to create a fun topic??? >Or tell some jokes??? Something! Fun topics..........Mmmmmmm let the creative juices flow and the dawning on enlightenment explode into a cavalcade of emotional complexity and usher forth these words of wisdom.... " So did you watch TV Last night " LOL OK not that funny but I did make an effort :). OK Seriously.......funny topic.......if you were to find a suitcase with the largest denomination of paper money and the case was packed so the amount was for example ?10.000.000 ( Just for the record that's about $16.000.000 ) would you keep it quiet and keep it for yourselves or would you hand it into the police ?. OK Given more time I could come up with a much more fun question than that but its ok for now :). Have an enjoyable day and don't forget to smile ...... then people will wonder what your up to LOL. (((Mellow Gentle Squishes))) to you and all whom you Love :)

Hello Jessica :). On 26 Aug 2006 13:47:24 -0700, "Jessica Marie" <daisyweaver(a)gmail.com> wrote: >DBlondeCat: > >I would settle for suggestions and/or tips that others use to deal w/ >their agora! Or once again, am I the only neurtoic one around >here? DBC, are WE the ONLY one's around here? I have a few ways that might help with your progress in dealing with agoraphobia as I have suffered from it for 12 years....since 1994. I'm able to go out a lot more now and I even own a bike which has now covered 7100 miles in a year and a half :). The getting out of the front door isn't the issue......see to me that's smacks of going to far to fast.......( insert the clearing of the throat here and putting on my most deep and booming voice...........) Its not the leaving of the house but the thought of leaving that comes first. Most people ( Myself included ) think when they get agoraphobia that they want to do all those things they used to do.......like for example go on holiday or visit their friends in other towns or maybe even go to the shops but these are the wrong steps to take if you are agoraphobic......your moving far to fast. Lets start at the beginning and see if this helps..........Here is a little getting better exercise for everyone which I will join in with.......follow the steps one by one and see what happens. Step one stand up and then sit down again. So you think this is funny.....well not really.....see the first step is the intention of going out.....not really the leaving. Now you have stood up ( I do hope you did stand up ) we will try the second step. Step two ( Oh and by the way this session will only have a few steps which is the key ) stand up again and step one step away from the computer towards the door in the room you are in but only one step ok......then come back and sit down again :). The step away from the computer is the key to making it a little closer to your door but with out leaving your place of comfort. Step three ( And this is the important step )....congratulate yourself on taking not only the first step to recovery but the second step also :). All in all its not about rushing things to get out NOW....that wont work for most people.....Baby steps are the safest way to help get over or at least deal with such an illness. For now the front door doesn't exist and has nothing to do with us at all......one step at a time.....after a few days of following steps one and two maybe you can try a few steps towards the front door and build this up little by little till you can eventually touch the level/knob/handle of the front door and turn it....this of course is a long way off but its best to build up to this. Gradually increasing the steps will build a stable foundation and even though the goal of a holiday is a very long way off the fact that after a month or two the front door will hold no power at all is a beautiful feeling :). I hope this makes sense for anyone who is reading it.
