Hi, I was wondering if any of you knew of any medicine that I could take
that would keep me alert during the day? I've been trying to work on this
sleep problem from the sleep angle, but nothing seems to really work. I
thought maybe I could tackle it from the other angle... maybe there is
medicine that would keep one alert. Being as sleepy as I am during the day
is way too dehibilitating.

have you seen a sleep Doctor?

do you have narcolepsy?
or problems sleeping at night?
how long do you sleep for, typically?
do you have depression?

those are just starters........

You might talk to your doctor about Provigil. I found it very helpful. I'm on
1/2 tablet per day right now, and it has been helpful, though I suspect I may
need to go to the full 1 pill per day.

I don't mean this to sound sarcastic, but you don't know if you don't
ask. There is a wonderful drug sold by doctors Chase and Sanborn (Mexwell
House, Chock Full of Nuts, and others---I prefer Hills Brothers) which has
been known to keep people awake and is available without a prescritpion.

Diagnosis before cure. Find out why you are so sleepy before you just
try to prop your eyelids open. Get seen by a physician.

While you are waiting for your appointment in three weeks, however,
there is still no over the counter drug for alertness better than
caffeine, which is still legal, anyway.
