From: Tim on 28 Oct 2005 22:07 I have some queries re how alcohol effects me that i am intrigued about and was hoping someone could provide some answers. I should point out that i am an occasional drinker(can go over 6 months without having a drink) ie i am not someone who drinks regularly nor am i someone who never has a drink. Beer-This makes me feel nauseous and woozy( 2 cups or less)which i discovered many years ago and therefore wouldn't touch it no way no how. Red wine-After a wine glass full i feel positively soporific and woozy ditto white wine but to a lesser degrees. I am not a wine drinker and therefore only have it when wine is being served with a meal at someone else's house. Spirits, cinzano etc-Normally i do not have a problem with these and when i do drink i usually drink cinzano or something similar though have been known to enjoy a very occasional vodka. However recently i have found that vodka makes me feel facially flushed ie face feel really warm/hot and i also feel sleepy/soporific .This occurring after just one glass. TIA

Maybe you have some type of potato (or nightshade) intolerance. Maybe you should talk to a naturopathic doctor. They get as much training as regular medical doctors, but they use a more holistic and natural approach? You can also talk to an alternative doctor about this. They are licensed like regular medical doctors, but do some approaches that most MD's don't. To find an alternative doctor, go to www.acam.org. They can help you find an alternative doctor by state or zip code. Brad_Chad

I only have to drink a couple of mouthfuls of red wine and immeadiately feel flushed woozy and odd. I avoid it. I drink some nice organic scrumpy , but rarely and this seems to suit me. Temprance

Might have the same chemicals at lower levels. > However recently i have found that vodka makes me feel facially > flushed ie face feel really warm/hot and i also feel sleepy/ > soporific .This occurring after just one glass. That doesn't fit the above pattern. Maybe you've developed a general alcohol intolerance? In which case there's nothing to be said except "don't do that". If you can afford it, get your liver enzymes checked out. That reaction can be caused by lowered enzyme activity (which itself can have many different causes). ============== j-c ====== @ ====== purr . demon . co . uk ============== Jack Campin: 11 Third St, Newtongrange EH22 4PU, Scotland | tel 0131 660 4760 <http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/> for CD-ROMs and free | fax 0870 0554 975 stuff: Scottish music, food intolerance, & Mac logic fonts | mob 07800 739 557
