From: Victor S. Miller on 2 Apr 2008 22:04 I have a Teleflex Hybrid mask (which I had great hopes for after reading about it). My problem is getting it adjusted properly. I've sized everything according to spec (and the tech at the sleep center agreed with my choices). I can get the mask on before I go to sleep so that it doesn't leak -- though the pressure against my teeth is slightly uncomfortable. Any lower pressure on the top straps and it leaks all over the place. My big problem is -- even though I'll go to sleep and everything seems fine I'll wake up about 2 or 3 hours later with the mask leaking all over the place (from my nostrils). Last night the CPAP alarm woke me up because the nasal pillows had come out of my nose! One thing about the hybrid that I think is rather strange is that the nasal pillows angle AWAY from my face. That's the main reason that I need to tighten the straps so much. Can anyone explain why the mask would be designed that way -- it seems counterintuitive. The only mask that I've had (I'm on my fourth now) that has bee comfortable was my original one -- Mirage Swift Nasal pillows. Unfortunately I proved to be a mouth breather, so the mask was completely inffectived for me. Any suggestions about adjusting the hybrid? Victor
From: Sue Morton on 3 Apr 2008 09:28 I haven't used a hybrid, so this may not apply. On each full face mask I've tried, changing the placement of the headgear made a big difference. In all the ones I tried, I tended to place the headgear too high on my head (even though it seemed to 'naturally' want to fall into place right there). Once I moved the headgear down a bit lower on the back of my head, this changed the angle of the mask to my face and solved many leaks. In one case I was able to take up 2-3 more inches on the bottom straps for such a small headgear placement change! And solved the leaking. So don't assume the headgear placement that it seemed to 'naturally' fall to, is the right placement for you... experiment with moving the headgear around in addition to tightening the bottom straps. -- Sue Morton Victor S. For me, to use the Hybrid, I found the smaller (medium) mouth cushion worked best for me although the sizing guide said it was too small. I used the largest pillows. Even so, to stop leaks thru the night, for this mask, I needed to keep the straps much tighter than any of my other masks. You might want to try the smaller mouth cushion and really tight straps (so tight for me that I went to Padacheeks to minimize the marks). With those settings, this was the only FFM that would not leak (or if it did, just pulling it off my face and resetting it with the straps on was sufficient). I hope this helps. harlan

My problem is getting it adjusted properly. I tried the Resmed clone of that, and I could not get it to stop leaking. When I looked around, I found that quite a lot of people had the same problem. Sorry that's no positive help, but it may be useful to know. I have been using the Resmed standard sort of FFMs for about 10 years now, and they are better than anything else I can find (for me, with my face shape).

I had the same experiences, but then I tried the ResMed Quattro. Not perfect (but what one of these FF masks is...?), but it has been the most comfortable *for me*. --DR |
