Looks like I sort of have a part time job at a drive through safari
park. I went there the past 2 days to check it out and TRY to learn the
names of the animals. There are 2 ways to go through, with your own
car, or on a wagon pulled by a tractor. I would be driving a tractor
and stopping at various places to feed different animals, and then I'm
supposed to be able to tell the customers a little about the animals and
answer what questions I can.

This may sound easy, but for me to memorize the animals isn't easy at
all. I rode on the back of the wagon and got off at the stops like the
drivers do. (the customers aren't allowed off the wagon or out of their
cars). It's pretty cool standing inches away from a 1 ton Bison. But
you do have to stay aware of the surroundings because sometimes the
animals get a bit "wild". Anyway, at the stops I'm supposed to tell
what I know about the animals and it just isn't sinking in. In over 4
hours I think I only learned 1 animal (that I didn't know already). A
Nil Guy is a very pretty bull from ??????? some far off land. They have
cool stripes on their ears, that's how I remembered them (I think?).
When the males get older they turn blue! "Nil Guy" translates to "blue
bull".

That's about as far as I've gotten. I drove home today wondering how I
should go about canceling in the morning. The more I thought about it
the more I started to tremble. I'm a bit better now, if tommorow goes
bad, then maybe I will quit. I'll probably tell the boss and let him
decide since he has some large groups coming in the next 3 days.

Actually it shouldn't be too difficult because we are taking a large
group and there will be a tractor in front and behind me. So those
drivers can do all the talking and I'll be spinning in circles trying to
remember things and keeping from getting rammed by a Ram or something
with sharper pointed horns.

The animals are really neat, some are very friendly and like being
petted while others don't come too close. Most of them will eat out of
your hand. The giant Bison stick their tongue out and wait for you to
drop food on it.

Well wish me all the luck in the world cause I need it.

Tony
or maybe now KOTJ is a better fitting name.

I wish you luck Tony. You can give it a try and see if you think you would
like it. If not, you can always quit. What is KOTJ? (I just figured it out
:)

Will they allow you to read the names and information of the animals off
of index cards or something? At least until you get it down?

I think it sounds like a fun job, Tony! I can understand the frustration
over remembering what type of animals you're talking about, though. I think
that would freak me out, too!

In any case, I wish you luck and, as always, let us know what you're going
to do!
