Prev: Hi, Falzie!
Next: 6th day of holidays
From: Eleonore Beaudoin on 11 Jun 2008 00:18 Fourth day of weather over 40C, and so so humid... They kept calling for storms and heavy rains since Friday, every day. Never was any to call rain. Droplets, period. Humidity chased away each day for a minute by winds, but another humid front coming right behind it. Tioday I finally clicked: I was hoping for the storm and rain to be able to move and breath to do things. But it finally hit me: they are exactly so off that ot might just go n this way the entire week. Therefore might as well do with it. Went to do two things I had planned to do on holidays: get some lighter clothes for the house and for work, but only found some to wear at home. Second hand stores. But at least I can wear some shorts if they do not really fit me (therefore to wear at home). Then I hunted for some potting sil. At this time of the season they only have black and top soil, which is good for nothing. But I managed to find some potting soil, and bags of soil for hanging baskets that oughta be so-so mixed with the potting soil. I want to repot my plants and take some outdoors. Was very hard to try clothes on, so awfully hot and humid it was. But at least I ended up buying the ones I tried, so. Behind the supposed storm they have been calling for each day since last Friday (sionce this heatwave started), s supposed to be a cold front. Apparently it is 15 C right now. CCould have fooled me: wth airco and fans and dehumidifier, it still feels just the same to me. Soaked, and yet dehydrating after son many days of such awful heat. Tired of drinking. You have the impression yo drink a glass of water only to see it leak through your pores.... Anyway. Tomorrow will be potting and gardening, unless it would be true blue skies. I then might go for a walk if pleasant, or to the beach to get a bit of color, since I am scary white. But gardening a few days could make that happen too. In fact, having to go water the plants outdoors would give me somethign to do out there, and allow me to get colors, therefore the idea. Coud do no laundry, no way to ue the dryer in this heat, and it woudl not dry outdoors f I blew on it. Too humid the air is. We had a scare of a half hour thi late afternoon as the sskies canged drastically and instantly from teh white clouds we finally had since five minutes to pitch black. Took piccies of the blue sky mixing wiht the black so fast, some cloud pcs are just humpf, yet thy were much much much nicer in reality, much more contrast out there there was than on the film. Problem was that he sun was just gettign to shne through when this storm came...But it ended up beign very stogn winds, at a point making me think that that was it, we woudl get a tornado....I sa many in fact, small ones, thank God nsetad of one majr one, forming. One spiral running behidn the oher, but not touchng ground, not here or anywhere I could see anyway, but I was sure that soeone woudl get the tornado somwhere (or two or three: that was a powerful front all right),.. Too ad we only had a few droplets, really:(:( Nothgn to even get wet at all:(. Got two fo;lddable tv-dinner tables, whte (used) that I want to use to set some plants cloer to the sunlight, indoors, by pati doors. Might use them for biurd cages, shall see. If it is cold and dark or raining tomorrow, maybe I will then do the painting, if it looks like it might be reasonable temp after that to open doors and widows, to breath through the paint fumes after all those unbreathable days. Once the house gets like this, it woudl take a good five days in a row with no humidity to feel normal in the house. Humidity lingers a long time in here.... Been removng about ten gasllons per 24 hours these last days. On normal days, dehumidifier removed about 100 gallons per two days. At night though it might stop because t is full, so hard to sayif it would not have removed more: I don,t realize it stops a night until I get soaked from the humidity gahering worse again. This area has become so bad for weather (awful record winter with so much snow and lasting so long: we had over 10 feet of snow this past winter. In fatc we missed 12 feet by a few inches they said. And it lasted so long... We had no spring, only cold cold weather and rain for a spring, it felt like a long long non-ending late fall... I thought the birds woudl be happy I woudl be home, but the way it is, they never had doors and wiondows closed so long, so many days and nights in a ow, and they look at me wodnering why I do this...Poor things... My legs ache from inactivity, having spent nearly four days toughing it out, waiting for it to go away scne they kept sayng it would day after day after day... I thought it just got delayed, but finally came to my senses: might be delayed some more and some more and....Might as well live with it. Gets me too upset to miss my holidays for a seventh year in a row!!! No way Jose! By now the airco hurts my bones: I still will be soaked wet from the ehat anyway, but the draft from the airco and dehumidifier will make it freeze on my back and skull, condensation, where by now every joint and bone in my body hurts. I could only move today after taking a demerol the dental surgeon had given me for my wisdom tooth xtraction, but that I had only used one on. Thnkl God for those, I coudl go get the soil and carry all bags and so on, despite the bnes aching and the heat and all. People say those make them sleep like mad. Not me apparently. Had some another time before where there too only had taken two, one at a time, days apart, and had not felt any sleepiness or anything. By now though it is near 1 A.M. and I am getting there.....I hope when I get to the forst floor to sleep on the couch tha I somehow can sleep with the doors or widows opend and no motor running nowehre. Tired of the sound of the fans and airco and dehumidifier runing at max power all the time.... Well, that is about it. Not much hppens when oen toughs it out trying to not go mad, sitting all day because ot is to hot to pace around or do anything.... Hope everyone is fine and that those who had this bd front too in the US and the rest of Canada are fine..... Nighty night! C

From: Carl P on 11 Jun 2008 21:33 Hi Chloe, The high humidity is dreadful in hot weather. You find yourself sweating early in the morning and and is absolutely oppressive in the afternoon. But at least inside where you have air conditioning, you can get some relief. Gardening is very therapeutic. It does take work to keep the weeds out and the bugs away, but you will be richly rewarded for your efforts. Getting out and about is very important in keeping your health. I hope your legs get better soon. Your dehumidifier gets a lot of work. I'm glad that it's doing the job it was designed for. You must have to empty out the tank often. That will help a lot in keeping your fish tank water healthy and to keep any mold spores in control. So even though you have to put up with the noise, it does help. I,d have agonized with dehydration and frustration without! It emptied 10 gallons of water per 24 hours. Today I thought it was broken when I sw it was at the same level it was when I checked in the morning:) Until I saw it was only 43% humidity in the house!!! Whoohoo! Rigt now both theairco and dehumidifier are on but neither are working. Oh relief!! Both make a cool draft and that is a killer when your body is seating witht eh idoors temp being at 28, 36 for sure with humidity no matter how much the thing ran. Thank Gd we had a drop in tempeature afte he storm, from thirties to 15 last night and 17 this morning, hen up to 24-27 today, but felt liek 24 given the wind that was so strong, perfect day for me at the beach!:) For ardening, I did not (yet?)opt for flower beds, but for pots that are shaped like a half circle that I had bought last year and can be screwed on the fence. Loks like a whole put would be there with a fence bopard going through it? But only half a pot. I bought simple marigolds, and of a color I never woudl ahve bought before for being too comon: orange. Marigolds to rid me of insects!! The are isect repellents. But also because iosnects eat the leafs off flowers and plants and they then have nothing left to survive with (plants, not insecs!). Thing is, I had to put at least one marigod per half-pot, and those are not big, so putting anoer plant or flwoer with it m,ade it tight already. As they grow I will ahve to translant them. Shall see then what I do....Buy pts or what. I don>t think I am up o working on all four yet. Back is not very strogn still and legs acheeasily...Besides, the darn insects make it uncofy to work in the soil... This was our fost day to call decent since last eyar!!! Imagne that!! We had the longest of witners, with tons of snow (almost 12 feet!!), that seemed like it woudl enever end. And for aspring, we froxze with cold rain on cold days or when it was sunny, it was not over 14 WHEN t got there, I think it got to be 17 once and 19-20 wice, but each time with the darndest cold wind that woudl not go away! Itfelt like late fall, this spring, until it drastically and suddenly chaged for another extreme this last Saturday, Sunday and Monday and Tuesday, where a cold front is on its way and where they expect temepratures to soon be just like before: cold and rainy.:( So I got to take the rare decent days when they come..... Specially when on holidays. Went to he beach, bought flowers to plant, installed baskets (or half-pots: see my reply to Carl: had finsihed my reply to you when I got disconnected:( This server had not done those thigns to me in ages...:(.... Just renewed the accout, it is as if they were playng it nice for renewal....;-)) Managed to get some color on my face and arms without burning. Legs remained white, f the thigh on oen side had some trace of sun, uneven, only part of one side of that leg.... I then remained on the beach wearign a blouse to hide my shoudlers, and hid my face from the sun and used more sunscreen. This tme I managed okay for the face to ot get burnt. I left when I felt that the spots that ahd reacted to the sun on the thoghs woudl burn if I kept tryign to make the lower legs to lok like I een went to the beach! I hen bought the flwoersd and though that spending time in the yard woud help the lwoer legs. I was good enough t sue more sun proection, stonger, on my face, hands and forearsm. Not used to that. Thelast time I coudl get in the sun (well, I went a while ago, a few years ago but before that time, last tiem I really went to the beach was in 95, once. Wit Graves I coud not stand it. The driove there itself woudl be too much for me given the sun on the windshield....Way back wehen, we did not have to worry about the sun, so I never know what level of sunblock to use and all that stuff. I had just abot all that mist exist with me. 2,4,6 (old bottles:)), 15, 30, 45 and is it 60 or 65? Anyway. I also was good enough to not work immediately in the yard, to not burn... nd to add rotection on my hands and foremars ad face, and pretty soon on my knees as they started feeling liek they ahd too much sun. It was 6:30 when I started i the yard, so I thought I woudl be okay. But I worried it woudl be too much after a while... I managed though, if my heart once more gave me a hard time just as I was about to call it a night....Enlarging sensation, where it seems to not ebat....It got oka again but the second I moved it did it again..... and went away again, thank God. So all in all I managed not o bad:) And id two things I hd counted to do, hoped to have done, by today gven that they ahd said the waer woudl be too hot and humid from Sat to Tuesday.... Ankles seem to react storngly now to sun exposition. Good. Take this!!!:) They been swelling wiht hyperthermia thelast decade and a half and turning into what feels like wet rubber to the touch....Cold always and thick skin, abnoral sensation. At least now they will maybe swell, but in color, nah!L:) Nighty night! And may your winter be 20 billions times milder and shrter han ours was!!! C |
