From: Chad on 8 Oct 2007 00:35 First off I am admitting I have a drug problem, so please no lectures or advice regarding that. I am planning to ask my physician for a recommendation to a psychologist/psychiatrist at my next visit in a few weeks. Now that we have that out of the way.. I have a small percocet habit- I get them occasionally for the pain I endure with my colitis. I do actually have bad pain (mostly in the morning) and use them for this. I also abuse them and as bad as that is, that is the way it has been. When i could get them, i would. About a week ago I ran out of percocet and a few days later as desperate and pathetic as it is.. yep you guessed it- I ended up swallowing about 125 lomotil tabs. I was aware of the amount of the opiate in it and the amount of atropine- but in my state of mind (craving horribly for an opiate high)- I ended up swallowing them anyway. By the way- I did get an opiate high, which felt really good at the time- but then experienced sleeplessness, extreme dry mouth/ nose/throat, and then extreme nausea and vomiting for 1 day and slight nausea for a 2nd day. It has been about 4 days since then and I have been taking stool softeners and did take a dose of milk of magnesia and I have been going to the bathroom. But I have been experiencing a lot of bloating and pain. My theory so far has been to eat anything that usually gives me the shits, mcdonalds for example. I do not know if this is helping my situation or if the junk food is just adding to the rot that is already going on in my stomach. My question is what kind of diet should I follow now? Should I continue with the stool softeners and if so, how long will it take until my gut is mobile again? Is there anything that can jump start my stomach into working normally again?? Thanks for the advice and once again, i know i have a problem, i know what i did was pathetic and I am trying to get help..
From: paula on 8 Oct 2007 02:46 Hi Chad Sorry you are having a hard time. It seems your immediate problem is that taking all that lomotil might have made you constipated. Going overboard now with stool softeners seems to me a case of trying to make a right out of 2 wrongs. I would guess that to be the wrong approach. Is there a poison control centre in your area you can call and talk to? Of course, if as useful as here you might as well skip it, but one never knows. Next, did you call your doctor, or are you going to and ask a doctor what you should do. Be honest; most doctors have dealt with people who are addicted to one thing or another and will give you loads of credit for honesty and trying to change that. As to the present pain etc. I would eat only liquids if possible so as not to get blocked; at least eat healthy and get a head start on feeding your body for coping with withdrawal. Have you tried heat and massaging the painful area's. I think that is all you can do and hope it will wear off. Oh, what you did was not pathetic at all; you are just trying to cope the best you can even tough it is in a wrong way. Hopefully you get good help for that, but first things first. It is much harder to unlearn addictive behaviour when in pain and feeling lousy in other area's. Hopefully others have more idea's. Good luck; note; eliminated some cross posting. I would recommend you see a doctor. You could have done some serious damage to your liver, kidneys or both. It is difficult to know since the symptoms of overdosing are similar to the symptoms from having cause organ damage. Still having nausea on the second day is kind of alarming. You could tell the doctor that you took too much APAP and Ibuprofen since the tests will be similar in nature. At day 4 there might not be much that can be done if there is damage but it is better than waiting. In some cases severe damage might not be apparent for as much as 6-8 days following the event. For a bowel movement try Miralax. Good luck

Hi Chad, Sorry to hear about your pain and your pain management problems. I also had developed a dependence on narcotics due to my Crohns related issues. My husband found a wonder pill for me called suboxzone. It is an at home detox pill and works within forty minutes of taking your first dose. It really is a miracle, it obliterated all of the horrible withdrawal symptoms. Not all doctors can perscribe this medicine, go to their website and click on find a doctor, I did and I feel like I have a life again that I can somewhat control. Also, this doctor prescribed a non-narcotic pain medicine (Torradol) to help with the Crohns pain. I hope this helps you too.

It's been dicussed here many times, he can also check it out on the SAMHSA website, as well as WWW.ETFRC.Com..Before taking it though, you MUST be already in heavy WD, otherwise you face precipitated WD, which is pretty much like taking 30 days worth of WD and condensing it down into 15 minutes. It can be helpful, but you've gotta be careful. Mike
