10 Tips to Boost Your Energy
Feeling a little sluggish lately? Tired of being tired? YouÂ’re not
alone. We all go through periods of fatigue from time to time. And
whether itÂ’s caused by stress, physical exertion or a lack of sleep,
fatigue usually passes in time. Schiff® has compiled some simple
solutions to help stave off the 3:00 p.m. slump and give you the
energy you need to get through the day.

Start Your Day Off Healthy

And by healthy, we mean with a good breakfast. After a long night of
sleep, youÂ’re essentially starting the day off in starvation mode. So
itÂ’s no surprise that skipping breakfast will leave you feeling less
than energetic. But that doesnÂ’t mean you should grab some coffee and
a donut just before heading out the door. To give your body the boost
it needs to get up and go, try a scrambled egg, whole-grain toast and
a slice of cheese. Or have some cereal with low-fat milk and a piece
of fruit or a glass of juice.

Speaking of starting your day off healthy, donÂ’t forget your vitamins.
We recommend Schiff® Single Day Multivitamin, a convenient, one-tablet-
per-day nutrient formula, along with Schiff® Guided Minerals
Multiminerals Complex, which includes both major minerals and trace
minerals. Just three tablets of Schiff® Guided Minerals Multiminerals
Complex contain at least 100% of the Daily Value for each known
essential mineral with Daily Values, except potassium and chromium.

DonÂ’t Skip Meals

While breakfast is the most important meal of the day, that doesnÂ’t
mean itÂ’s okay to skip lunch just because youÂ’ve eaten a good
breakfast. Eating a healthy lunch, including some protein, will keep
your energy levels up and help you avoid that midafternoon crash. Just
be sure to keep it lean. Eating a heavy, high-fat meal will leave you
feeling too full, which will only make you more sluggish. Instead, try
a turkey sandwich on whole-grain bread with lettuce and tomato or a
green salad topped with low-fat dressing and plenty of veggies.

Hit the Pavement

For a quick pick-me-up when drowsiness hits, put down that coffee cup
and go for a brisk walk instead. Just 15 minutes of exercise will get
your blood flowing and give you a burst of energy. If thereÂ’s no place
to walk nearby, try taking the stairs or doing some jumping jacks. Any
activity that gets you moving and raises your heart rate will do the
trick. Afterward, youÂ’ll not only feel more alert, youÂ’ll be better
able to concentrate on the task at hand.

Shed Those Extra Pounds

If youÂ’re even a little overweight, itÂ’s bound to affect your energy
level. Carrying around just 10 extra pounds is the equivalent of
toting around a young baby all day long. When you think about it like
that, it really helps put it into perspective. Of course carrying that
additional weight would tire you out. And the same is true for having
extra weight on your body. So do yourself a favor and shed those extra
pounds. YouÂ’ll be healthier and have more energy as a result.

Get Enough Sleep

It may seem obvious, but if youÂ’re feeling low on energy make sure
youÂ’re getting an adequate amount of sleep every night. While your
sleep patterns will vary throughout your life, most adults need about
seven or eight hours of sleep a night. If youÂ’re having trouble
getting the rest you need, try modifying your sleep habits. Set a
regular sleep schedule and stick to it seven days a week. And make
sure your sleep environment is suitable. Ideally, it should be dark,
comfortable and slightly cool.

To help promote healthy sleep patterns, try taking Schiff® Melatonin
Plus. Produced by the pineal gland in the brain, this mechanism sets
your bodyÂ’s biological clock. Taking melatonin at bedtime can help
initiate sleep. Schiff® Melatonin Plus contains added theanine, a
natural compound found in green tea thatÂ’s known for its calming and
stress-relieving properties.

Snack Smarter

A sudden drop in energy could be a sign that youÂ’re hungry. But
instead of reaching for cookies or a candy bar, opt for healthier
snacks that will give you the energy you need without slowing you
down. The best snacks include protein, a little fat and some
carbohydrates. Try peanut butter on whole-grain toast, cheese and
crackers, or half a turkey sandwich.

Drink More Water

If youÂ’re feeling sluggish, it could be a sign that youÂ’re dehydrated.
So when drowsiness comes on, try drinking up. Downing a glass of water
is a quick and easy way to refresh, especially when itÂ’s hot out. And
the hotter it gets, the more water you need. ThatÂ’s because hot
weather increases perspiration, which depletes your bodyÂ’s supply of
water. To help prevent dehydration, make sure youÂ’re drinking an
adequate amount of water. Aim for eight glasses a day on average —
more if itÂ’s hot out or youÂ’re sweating a lot.

Head Outdoors

Need a quick boost? Try getting out in the sunshine for ten minutes.
Natural light not only improves energy levels, itÂ’s also a great way
to improve your mood. In fact, recent studies recommend getting ten
minutes of sunscreen-free sun exposure a day. Sunlight is our primary
source of vitamin D, which is essential for good bone health, as well
as immune function, muscle strength and heart health. And it also
stimulates the pineal gland, which helps regulate your bodyÂ’s internal
clock. In addition to getting an adequate amount of sun exposure, try
Schiff® Vitamin D 2,000 IU. Just one small tablet per day delivers
2,000 IU of quality vitamin D3, which is utilized more efficiently by
the body than vitamin D2.

Sing a Song

The next time you feel your energy level plummeting, try singing.
While it may sound like a strange way to tackle fatigue, singing draws
more oxygen into the body. And that can chase away exhaustion while
giving you a mental boost.

Change Your Outlook

Ever notice how changing your mindset can change how you feel? So when
youÂ’re feeling sluggish, donÂ’t let it get the best of you. Instead,
think of something that makes you smile. The simple act of putting a
smile on your face can give you a noticeable energy boost. For more
