Hello folks,
Just want to take a moment to thank you for sharing your experiences. I
have found some good tips and my first year with CPAP is ending on a good
note.

My apnea is mild, but enough to treat (9 apneas/hr). I have the ResMed
Elite S8 with humidifier and Mirage Swift nasal pillows. I'm careful not to
tighten the straps too much and route the hose over my head -- this works
well for me.

My biggest challenge was to stop mouth breathing. I used the trick of
holding my tongue to the back of my front top teeth and also started Nasonex
to keep the nasal passages clear (also helped immensely with the horrendous
post nasal drip!). The tip to use a nasal decongestant spray, rotating
nostrils has also been helpful for the occasions when the Nasonex hasn't
been enough.

For the first time in a long time... I find that I don't go around thinking
and feeling that I just want to go to bed and SLEEP! (Even if I had slept
for several hours the night before.) I'm also slowing increasing my energy
level and I rarely get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.
(tho my apnea awakenings have been replaced by hot flash awakenings... but
oh, well.. at least I don't have both going on continuously!)

Thanks for the support here -- helped me to keep on trying. Next - is to
try the new Mirage Swift II - I'm sure the first version is no longer
carried by my provider. (Excited to try something new and nervous about
adjusting!)

Sleep well,
Julie C

Julie, some of us have found challenges with the Swift II around the
connections of the interface to both the hose and plug.

If you are one of those, try one layer of shiny, black electrical tape
wrapped once around the plug and hose. It seems to provide a more stable
platform, solving problems for those who experience them.

I was lucky and never had any of those problems. For me the change from
Swift I to Swift II was a significant improvement. The Swift II is
noticeably quieter because it vents differently. So hopefully Julie will
like the change, but if not she can break out the electrical tape...
